Forget Flex. Listen to my Linux Woes

So I stupidly bought the husband an iPod for Christmas. The husband doesn't like Linux. You know where this is going, don't you?

Let me backtrack a bit. I did embark on to the Virtual Machine path. Got it up and running, installed Windows XP on it and iTunes. And had my iPhone working beautifully. I was happy. Let me stress the I in that sentence. And I don't think there is anything wrong with that. But iTunes, for some reason, wouldn't recognize the iPod. My husband didn't like the VM. The VM audio wasn't working. Etc. So I decided to go with my original plan, return to XP and partition the drive for Linux.

Well. That in itself was a nightmare. XP doesn't recognize half the crap on my new laptop (it was once run by Vista remember. The sticker says so.) and refused to load. Some sites insisted I needed to create a new XP boot disk via this complicated task. Yeah. Wasn't doing that. I downgraded the hard drive in the BIOS, and XP installed.

Once I updated all the service packs, most (and let me stress that that certainly does not mean all) of my laptop was working. I had to still individually get it to recognize the audio, the usb, and the wireless. It still doesn't completely recognize the video card and the monitor resolution is pathetic. But I've no time lately to fight with it. (Renovations, another long story)

For the record, AGAIN, Linux installed in 20 minutes with no issues.

So now I'm stuck with XP on my home laptop. I'm eagerly waiting for the time to partition the drive and put my beloved Linux back on it. And I still have to fix XP a bit so it runs properly.

I hated Vista. Now I hate XP. I want a Mac. (I'm sure that will bring it's own woes, but man will I feel cool-er). And it'll match my total loser self that has an iPhone and a Smart Car. I think it fits the package.

I hope to return to Flex next week. And Linux too.

On the plus side, Movable Type and I are becoming fast friends. Had an eye-opening moment where I actually spent more than five minutes at a time looking at it, and went oh, that's how it all works. Duh. So now I've been sidetracked with making widgets and playing with default templates. You know what this means:If our blogs blow up one day you can pretty much guarantee it is my fault.

More to come!
