First, let me introduce myself: my name is Taylor and I am a software designer.
Why did I choose this career path? Well, learning new things and taking on new challenges are two of the primary reasons -- in fact, if you're willing to leave your comfort zone from time to time (i.e. avoid complacency and inertia), software design can be very rewarding, since it is a great way to apply your creativity in practical ways. (Also, it's good clean work.)
The last few years of my life have been spent primarily doing Java web development as a consultant. I recently left the independent consulting world after accepting a permanent position at 4Point Solutions as a "Systems Analyst". Part of my job requires that I learn to program in Flex. I intend, through this blog, to share my experience with anyone else who might follow the path I am on (i.e. From Java to Flex In n+1 Easy Steps). I will highlight the best learning materials I find, including tutorials, seminars and other odds and ends. My hope is that by chronicling my travails, I can make the path easier for anyone else who is making the same shift. I will also share my gleanings/discoveries regarding the implementation of an agile development process and Flex.
Please feel free to comment on my posts, especially if it is to provide advice or to otherwise add information of interest. I try not to take myself too seriously, so I hope you will do the same: everything I write should be taken with a grain of salt.
As always: my opinions don't reflect those of my employer... in fact, by the time you read them they might not even reflect my own.
Thanks for reading,
Taylor
